Shub Law LLC is currently investigating Facebook’s data breach that took place earlier last week, affecting nearly 50 million users on the social network.
WERE YOU AFFECTED? According to Facebook, the breach affected at least 50 million accounts. This is the larget breach in Facebooks 14 year history. The breach was a three-part hack that occurred as a result of Facebook’s “view as” feature that was left vulnerable to hackers. This breach allowed attackers to steal “access tokens,” or otherwise called sets of code, which could potentially be used to take over people’s Facebook accounts. These access tokens allow others to log in to your account without needing your password. Facebook said that the breach also affected third-party apps such as Instagram that are linked to your Facebook account. As a result, Facebook logged roughly 90 million people out of their accounts. The attackers are unknown, but Facebook has informed the FBI as well as the Irish Data Protection Commission. Facebook claims that affected users do not need to change their security settings, including their passwords, however the longterm, overall effects of this breach or how the attackers will use the stolen information is yet to be discovered.
